Long Covid Ireland is a patient-led organisation that offers Support, Education, and Advocacy for all sufferers of Long Covid in Ireland.
Long Covid Ireland is a community-led organisation founded in June 2020 by Claire Twomey, dedicated to supporting, advocating for, and educating Long Covid sufferers in Ireland. Our mission is to ensure that Long Covid survivors are not alone in their journey, offering a safe and compassionate space to share experiences, discuss challenges, and access essential resources.
Why and When the Group Was Created
The seeds of Long Covid Ireland were sown when Claire Twomey, a resilient Long Covid survivor, recognized the need for a support system for those grappling with the long-lasting effects of COVID-19. Struggling to find understanding from medical professionals and facing disbelief in the workplace, Claire knew there had to be others in the same situation. She decided to take matters into her own hands, setting up a Facebook page that quickly gained traction as more and more Long Covid sufferers found solace and understanding within the growing community.

The Community-Led Nature of Long Covid Ireland
Long Covid Ireland thrives on the active participation and selfless contributions of its members. Our members play a vital role in driving the group's initiatives, making key decisions, engaging with the media, sharing their stories, creating resources, managing the website, and offering support to fellow Long Covid sufferers. Our community-led approach is at the core of our success, creating a strong network of individuals united by their mutual experience and determination to overcome the challenges posed by Long Covid.
What the Group Tries to Do
Long Covid Ireland aims to provide a comprehensive range of support, education, and advocacy services to its members. We offer a nurturing environment where Long Covid sufferers can openly discuss their experiences, find comfort in knowing they are not alone, and access practical advice on managing their condition. We actively engage with healthcare professionals, researchers, and international Long Covid communities to stay updated on the latest developments and ensure that our members have access to the most current and relevant information.
As a patient-led organisation, we also work tirelessly to advocate for the recognition of Long Covid, urging the government and healthcare providers to allocate adequate resources and develop effective support systems for Long Covid sufferers in Ireland. Our dedicated community members have been instrumental in pushing for a Dáil motion that ultimately led to the government taking urgent action to address the growing concern surrounding Long Covid.
Join us in our mission to create a brighter future for all Long Covid sufferers in Ireland. Together, we can make a difference.
